We do have character limits for forums and comments. The forum limit is 5000 characters, and I assume the commenting limit is the same or less.

Check here

Also, there should be a link to wikipedia on the outside of the post box.

Ok, I tried to make an entry recently, on the viral video 'Willy Bum Bum'. It got deadpooled; I wasn't really sure why. I mean yeah, I personally didn't find it particularly funny, but I figured that objectively speaking it'd spread widely enough and spawned enough variants to deserve an entry. Was I wrong about this, or is the way I wrote the article at fault?

If someone could read it and let me know where I went wrong, I'd really appreciate it.

If I'm ever interested in making an entry or something, who could I go to for help?

Start here

There are also a lot of other extremely useful threads in the Site Related section of our forum, in addition to here in General. You should definitely check those out too, especially the Guide to Textile [tw: Autoplay]

Can I submit a pic without making a meme to someone here? I would rather leave it up to the professionals. It is the origin of duck face/lips.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean to say that you think you have the original instance (first memetic occurrence) of this entry?

If so, then you can go to the entry's gallery and upload the image. If you're certain it is the origin of Duck Face, then you should probably state your reasoning to the editors of the entry.

You can do that here. If that link doesn't work, then look for the "Suggest a Change" button on the right panel of the Duck Face entry page. That way, you can give the information to the editors, and they can write it into the entry.

If that isn't what you meant to do, then feel free to reply. We'll get it sorted out.

Thanks, while I was waiting I made an attempt at a meme and just posted it in the gallery from the link you provided. "She started it" I would love to see how other members would caption it.

I have a question. Whenever i try to post a picture in a comment, all i get is a red x. Is there any way to fix this?

  1. What's your browser? A red X sounds like the image isn't being embedded properly. I get a picture icon whenever I mess up in embedding an image in Chrome.
  2. Can you post an example image here? If you can embed it here, then it should work everywhere else on site. Textile and HTML versions of embedding images both work in comments and forum posts.

So if it fails here, then I can look at it and tell you what went wrong. If it works here, then it sounds like a problem James may have to answer (or BSoD, Brucker, another user who's more savvy about websites and stuff.)

Yeah, I see your problem.

You'd want to put the image URL in between exclamation marks. Not the page's address.

What you did was this:

Then you'd get a broken link icon for the image, because it's not using the image URL for the image.

What you want to do is this (using only the image URL):
I don't think I have IE9, but in the version I have, you'll need to right-click on the image, click "Properties," look at the "Address (URL)," and copy that. It should look like a web address, but it should probably end with ".jpg," ".gif," or ".png".

To get this:

Or do this (copy the "Textile Embed" link to the right of the image page):

To get the same thing (but it links back to the image page when you click on the image:)

That make sense? If not, then you can shoot me a wall post, a private message, or just post here again.

Also, you can look at RandomMan's Textile thread. It's got some basic and more advanced stuff about HTML and Textile. On the whole, it'll tell you everything fancy we can do in the forum, comments, and the articles.

What's the best way to put up a YouTube video from an iPad? I can't seem to view YouTube videos on my computer since getting my hard drive replaced.

YouTube allows users to embed videos on other sites. On the video, press "Share" then "Embed" and you'll see a highlighted code:

Paste that into your post, and it should come out with the video:

Hope this helps.

I see on some users' profile pages an awesome background instead of the white the page usually is. How do you do this? Thanks in advance!

That has to do with editing the HTML in the page's source code, which I unfortunately can't help with. You could probably ask one of those users, and hopefully they'll give you some tips!

Thank you!!! Waiting for the answer, glad someone was kind enough to do so…

Thanks again!

No problem.

I was thinking of posting the answer on your wall, but I figured you would be waiting for this.

I'm already a user for a few months, but one thing I haven't figured out yet, is how you delete PM's from your inbox. I have about 25 of them messages, but I don't know how to delete them. Is it possible to do so? Thanks in advance

I have 1,182 of them.

Being a mod is hard…

That bit of whining aside, I think you can only mark them as "read" once you've opened them. I don't think there is a way to delete them.

I would love to see a function where a message could be separated into two folders (and would really love to see a search function that lets you find messages from certain users,) but that probably isn't James' (site coder) priority right now. Sorry.

A question before another question: can I ask here about cheezburger?

You may, but we're only a part of Cheezburger. Most of the moderators only know about Know Your Meme, and the staff/administrators may only know the basics of Cheezburger.

You may want to try this link, to see if it's a "frequently asked question." But I don't see the harm in asking here either. The worst we can say is that we don't know, and I'd like to try to help.

Well, thanks for the link, it helps.
Apparently Cheezburger has no place to ask questions (at least as far as I could see), that's why I tried here.
I'll think a little more before asking the second question.
And thank for wanting to help :)

Okay. I understand it's not a priority, far from that. Anyway, thanks for the answer

They definitely have less of a community than we do. That might be your problem.

@Spark
For red, you type:
% {color:red}text here %
But without the spaces.
Example
Colors I know that can be made are
green
blue
pink
purple

Random tests to see if these are possible:
brown
gray
grey, different spelling
white
orange
yellow
ra i n b o w

So basicly, you type
% {color:red}text here %
Without the spaces, and replace "red" with whatever color you want

More info on text colors and other textile stuff can be found here

I am not even trying to troll you right now.

You guys all have shitty perspectives on reality.

Sure can.

Here's probably the best reference on the site for related matters. RandomMan's sage words will make you an expert.

In your post, you put in:

!http://www.google.ie/imgres?um=1&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hl=en&biw=1024&bih=497&tbm=isch&tbnid=vxx42bh-ME5O9M:&imgrefurl=http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/3qz6x5/&docid=p6XgnUpTccp9oM&imgurl=http://i.qkme.me/3qz6x5.jpg&w=625&h=468&ei=tHi_UZWzLM6I7AaB64GIAQ&zoom=1&iact=rc&page=1&tbnh=165&tbnw=221&start=0&ndsp=9&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0&tx=55&ty=62!

Although it's true that Textile lets you embed an image by placing it between two exclamation marks (i.e., !ImageURL.jpg! ), this is the Google Image Result page. What you want is the Image URL. It often ends with .jpg, .gif, or .png.

To get the image URL from a Google Image Result page, you need to click "View original image." When you open a page with an image URL, the image will be the only thing on that page.

The image URL for the image you wanted to embed was likely this:

http://i.qkme.me/3qz6x5.jpg

When you put that in between exclamation marks like this:

You'll end up with this

That make sense?
