Whether it be ideas for new courses or how to bring in a retro track, let’s share the ideas we have for Mario Kart courses
I’ll start with a couple.
- Sherbet Waterfront – A reimagining of Sherbet Land from Mario Kart 64 in that it’s a course set on an iceberg. However, the iceberg itself is now a full of what would’ve been shipwrecks turned into new homes for the penguins and the people who got stranded. To emphasize this, there could be one section set in a makeshift neighborhood/village made up of boathouses.
- Wet Dry West – A course set in a western town located in Sarasaland. It gets its name by being set next to an oasis like with Dry Dry Desert in Mario Kart 8. Perhaps you go into the oasis by driving through the nearby docks. Also small parts of the track in between the town and oasis would be purely desert.
- Forest Maze – This location from Super Mario RPG has returned as a spiritual successor to Yoshi’s Valley, having several branching paths. Perhaps Bowyer and his minions could attack the racers, especially those who take the quickest paths.
One last set of ideas would be out to improve poorly regarded courses. Introducing the Poison Mushroom Cup.
- DS Figure-8 Circuit – The course itself stays the same but fake item boxes return as exclusive stage hazards, traveling along the course, forcing drivers to dodge them, second lap turns stormy as the Thunder Cloud item also returns. An exclusive stage hazard like the fake item boxes, they’d be constantly shooting lighting as they travel along the course. Final lap has the Bob-Omb car from Mushroom City and Moonview Highway appear, taking the place of the fake item boxes. Also there would be boost panels that are on the path of the moving hazards so players have to choose between whether to take the boost and hope they can dodge the hazards in front or simply play it safe.
- SNES Vanilla Lake 2 – Let’s just reduce the amount of ice blocks and even turn those ice blocks into ice ramps. Also the course breaks apart over time culminating in the course going underwater halfway into the third lap. Said underwater section has a new layout, with penguins swimming about like in Rosalina’s Ice World. Also this course is 5 laps like in Super Mario Kart. If five laps is too long, then cut it four laps and have the racers go underwater after lap 2.
- N64 Wario Stadium – It would be a 2 lap affair and is now themed around Wario’s Castle from Super Mario Land 2 complete with hazards from there appearing like the metal spiked balls that swing, the fire breathing piranha plant statues, and the crushers that resemble Wario’s fists. To top it off, the theme could be a dark reprise of the Raceway theme in Mario Kart 64 with some added motifs in Wario’s boss theme and/or Wario’s Castle from Super Mario Land 2.
- GBA Cheese Land – While a beloved course, the unpopular change of making it canyon themed is undone, restoring the space theme. Or maybe a happy medium between the two by having it be a planetoid part of a cheese themed galaxy or an artificial biome that’s part of a colony on the moon. Regardless, the layout is overall the same as when it was remade for Mario Kart 8.
