Ayaya is a quote from a scene of the anime Kin-iro Mosaic. In the scene, the character Karen misidentifies the character "Aya" by calling her "Ayaya." The scene was parodied in various remixes and the face the character Karen makes in the scene later became a Twitch emote caled "AYAYA."

Origin

The scene comes from the third episode of Kin-iro Mosaic, "What Kind of Friends Will I Make?", which aired July 20th, 2013.^[1] On July 23rd, the scene was uploaded to YouTube, where it gained over 315,000 views (shown below).

Spread

Over the following several years, the scene was parodied in several popular videos which added music. For example, on December 10th, 2014, YouTuber WeebM posted a video parodying the scene using the music video for "Hunting Song" by the band Korpiklaani, gaining over 1.7 million views (shown below, left). On December 16th, 2015, YouTuber No. 4 remixed the scene using the song "Csikós Post" by Hermann Necke, gaining over 450,000 views (shown below, right).

Twitch Emote

On December 8th, 2016, Karen's face in the scene was submitted to Better Twitch TV^[2] as the emote "AYAYA." It was submitted to FrankerFaceZ^[3] on February 19th, 2017 under the same name. The emote was popular in the fandom for the streamer Admiral Bulldog, with several posts in the subreddit referencing it.^[4][5][6] It is considered cringeworthy by some users, as it is often used as a way to reference things related to anime or weeaboos.
