Donald Trump Getting Arrested AI Art refers to multiple AI-generated images of former President Donald Trump getting arrested and running away from police in New York City. The images were inspired by Donald Trump's rumored March 2023 arrest and were used by meme creators on Twitter on the day of his supposed arrest (March 21st, 2023). News outlets started debunking the AI art and memes as many internet users satirically spread misinformation by claiming that they were real photographs.

Origin

On March 18th, 2023 (soon after Trump stated on Truth Social that he was going to be arrested on that coming Tuesday), Twitter^[1] user @TheInfiniteDude started a thread (since deleted) that included AI-generated images of a Trump mugshot, protestors on the streets of Manhattan and Trump being escorted by police in Mar-a-Lago (shown below), among other images. The initial tweet gained over 880 likes before being deleted.

The images were shared by others on Twitter, like user @cwarzel^[1] who captioned a screenshot of @TheInfiniteDude's tweet on March 19th, 2023, with, "this fake trump arrest ai generated photo still looks over-stylized and fake and the hands are weird as per usual…but hard not to see how much better this is getting in a short amount of time" (shown below). The buzz caused news outlets like Forbes^[2] to debunk the photo's authenticity.

On March 20th, 2023, Twitter^[3] user @EliotHiggins started his own thread of AI-generated images showing Trump running from and then getting handled by NYPD officers. EliotHiggins' primary tweet gained roughly 25,400 likes in one day (shown below).

Twitter^[3] user @EliotHiggins' thread on March 20th included multiple AI-generated images of Trump's imagined arrest, ranging from him getting detained by police in Manhattan and his mugshot to him in an orange prison jumpsuit and him escaping prison and ending up at a McDonald's (examples shown below).

On March 21st, 2023 (the day of Trump's rumored arrest), Twitter users started to post the AI images, pretending that they were real photographs of his arrest. This started when Twitter^[4] user @kiracantmizz tweeted, "HOLY SHlT THEY GOT TRUMP😭," gaining roughly 55,300 likes in four hours (shown below, left). Soon after posting, many on Twitter started captioning and photoshopping the AI images. For instance, on March 21st, Twitter^[5] user @lmNOTcatholic paired an image with a Me If X Becomes Illegal caption, gaining roughly 3,100 likes in two hours (shown below, right).
