Frutiger Aero (sometimes shortened to FA) is the name given to an aesthetic that was popular in the mid- to late 2000s and early 2010s. Frutiger Aero is largely characterized by glossy textures, natural imagery such as water, plants, and clouds, and abstract aurora-like imagery.
While the aesthetic didn't have a name during the time it was popular, the name "Frutiger Aero" was given to it retrospectively in 2017 by Sofi Lee of the Consumer Aesthetics Research Institute. The name comes from Adrian Frutiger, who created the Frutiger family of fonts, and Windows Aero, the UI theme of Windows Vista.
Frutiger Aero went viral in 2022, leading to renewed interest in the aesthetic, likely due to Gen Z having grown up with it, and now being nostalgic for it.
