"God's Plan" is a song by rapper Drake. After debuting in February of 2018, the track became a major pop hit, spawning various memes related to its emotional tone and lyrics.
Origin
On January 19th, 2018, Drake released the Scary Hours EP which featured the track "God's Plan."[1] On February 16th, 2018, he released the music video for "God's Plan," which gained over 161 million views in less than one month.
Spread
The song debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, the 29th song in history to do so. It is also Drake's 4th debut at number 1, and 2nd as a solo artist. The song fits into the Trap genre and was produced by Cardo, Yung Exclusive, Boi-1da, and 40. The song's music video was notable as Drake donated $175,000 to Miami residents during the filming. The video's opening also states that the nearly $1 million budget for the production had been given away as well.

*God's Plan Starts Playing* is a series of image macros in which a screen capture from the music video for Drake's song "God's Plan" and the phrase "*God's Plan starts playing*" serves as the punchline to a joke about a small act of kindness. On February 24th, 2018, Twitter user @deliberatedaily tweeted a screenshot of Drake hugging a person from the video with the caption, "@chipotle worker: 'your change will be $2.25' me: 'you can keep it' *God's Plan starts playing*." The post (shown below) received more than 41,000 retweets and 126,000 likes in five days.
Several media outlets published articles about the popularity of the meme, including TIME. Additionally, on February 28th, Twitter published a Moments page on the popularity of the meme.

She Say Do You Love Me refers to videos animating one of the lyrics of the song which goes "She say 'Do you love me?' I tell her, 'Only partly. I only love my bed and my momma, I'm sorry.'" The videos tend to be animated with characters from pop culture, such as Kirby and Shrek. One of the first popular edits to appear on YouTube appeared on February 3rd, 2018, and featured the character Clarence from the Cartoon Network show of the same name, gaining over 92,000 views (shown below, left). A compilation of videos using the lyric was posted to YouTube on the 19th, gaining over 187,000 views (shown below, right).
