About
The Jellyfish Arms Jail Video, also known as the Arm Jellification Video or the Brazilian Jellyfied Arm Trick, refers to a viral gore video showing a male prisoner's arms being dismembered from his body through the bars of his jail cell. The video leaked on Reddit in January 2024, spreading to Twitter / X soon after. The video originally spread on LiveLeak as early as 2017, allegedly from a Brazilian prison.
Origin
On June 17th, 2017, LiveLeak[1] user Intensified Beef Products posted a video titled "The Old Fashioned Brazilian 'Jellyfied' Arm Trick" that showed a male prisoner (purportedly in a Brazilian prison) being tortured. The man's arms are dismembered from his body using a rope, causing a resemblance to a jellyfish's tentacles. The LiveLeak[1] video gained over 124,000 views in four years prior to the site's shutdown in 2021.
Spread
On September 20th, 2022, YouTuber [2] Disturbed Reality posted a video called "The Horrors Of South American Prisons" that outlined three stories, including what he called the "Jellyfish Arms" video. Starting at the 5-minute mark (shown below), the YouTuber details the video. Over two years, it received roughly 235,300 views.
Starting on January 5th, 2024, the so-called "Jellyfish Arms Jail Video" was posted on Reddit[3][4] to since-banned subreddits mostly consisting of throwaway accounts. On January 6th, the video was posted to the website watchpeopledie.tv on the /h/gore[5] board by user MyNamesJihad, gaining over 3,300 pageviews in five days (screenshot shown below).
After the video spread on Reddit in January 2024, video creators started spreading information about the video. Notably, TikToker [6] @sebastiank22 posted a video on January 5th, 2024, in which he explained the video's contents. Over six days, the TikTok received roughly 965,800 plays and 39,900 likes (shown below).
