Sparked by a viral X / Twitter post, the debate garnered widespread discussion in mid-March 2024, with many users agreeing that Mr. Krabs is a greedier character.

On March 16th, 2024, X[1] user @Jaiku2099 posted images of cartoon characters Mr. Krabs from SpongeBob SquarePants and Scrooge McDuck from DuckTales, commenting, "Who’s more greedy?" The post (shown below) received over 1,000 quotes and retweets, 4,500 likes and 970 replies in two days.

Starting on the same day, March 16th, 2024, users on X / Twitter replied to the post and quoted it with their opinions on the debate. On that day, X[2] user @AfterLi51707799 quoted the post, writing that Mr. Krabs is the greedier character who has no consideration for anyone while Scrooge McDuck actually cares about his family. The post (shown below, left) received over 180 reposts and 1,000 likes in two days.

Later that day, X[3] user @don_ovan1 posted a clip from DuckTales in which Scrooge spends his fortunes while searching for his niece, with the post (still image shown below, right) gaining over 2,000 reposts and 13,000 likes in two days.

More users shared their opinions on the matter in the following days, bringing up examples of Mr. Krabs' extreme greed. For example, on March 17th, 2024, X[4] user @ch0colope mentioned an episode in which Mr. Krabs forces a patron to "unwatch" a film, with the post gaining over 12,000 reposts and 145,000 likes in one day (shown below, left).

Depends reallty, in the American comics and stuff, Scrooge is alot more affable and caring towards his family, he's cranky and somewhat miserly but it's constantly reinforced that he loves his family over his money. The Italian/European comics however, Scrooge gives Krabs a run for this money, being extremely cantekerous, angry and even (comically) violent towards his family for constantly putting his fortune at risk or otherwise trying to tak advantage of his money and status, this Scrooge has also done stuff similar to Krabs such as actually not paying Donald to work for him and even CHARGE him to work for him, though typically this is cause Donald in those comics is extremely lazy and constantly trying to scheme to get out of working or scamming Scrooge for money.

TLDR: American Scrooge is too edgeless and friendly to provide Krabs any challenge, Italian/European comic Scrooge however is just as bad as him and could actually give him a run for his money (PUN FUCKING INTENDED.)

One thing I do find interesting is that Scrooge is more likely to spend money, but Krabs isn't unless he absolutely has to. Scrooge lives in a huge mansion, Krabs lives in an anchor (though his house is nicer than the homes of the series' other main cast, it's no mansion). While Scrooge can be greedy and a bit of a curmudgeon, Krabs is shown to be far worse most of the time (selling SpongeBob's soul for 62 cents, charging for breathing, doing the absolute bare minimum for Pearl's birthdays and her 16th was only good because of SpongeBob…)

Yeah, Krabs is the worse of the two.
