About
No Bitches? refers to a series of memes based on an image of character Megamind from the 2010 film of the same name peeking into a peephole while waiting to be let in. Originally used without a caption, in December 2021 the image was captioned "No Bitches?" and achieved virality online, first as a reaction, and later as source material for recaptions and remakes.
Origin
On September 10th, 2010, the final trailer for the 2010 animated film Megamind premiered.[1] In one scene of the trailer, the clip in which Megamind pays a visit to his love interest Roxanne is teased, with the clip showing Megamind peeking into the peephole while waiting to be let in (shown below).
On October 27th, 2021, Twitter[2] user @artist_donna posted two still images of nervous-looking Megamind from the scene to Twitter in a thread about Dream SMP members. The tweet gained over 80 retweets and 3,400 likes in three months (tweet and images shown below).
The image also saw a minor presence online prior to @artist_donna's tweet.[3]
Spread
On October 28th, 2021, Redditor[4] Even-Face-1256 posted the earliest found fan art based on the image, redrawing it as Itou Kaiji from the Kaiji manga and anime series. The post gained 53 upvotes in /r/kaiji in three months (shown below, left).
Prior to December 2021, the image saw moderate spread online, primarily on Twitter and Discord, where it was used as a reaction. For example, on October 30th, 2021, Twitter[5] user @ionknowboutthat used it in an interaction about Halloween, with the tweet gaining nearly 1,500 likes in three months (shown below, center). On November 7th, 2021, Instagram[6] user leaderofmoosey posted a video meme that gained over 20,400 likes and 134,000 views in three months (shown below, right).
On December 14th, 2021, iFunny[7] user Weaponized_Retard reposted a reaction image based on the frame, captioned "No Bitches?," likely created by an unknown Discord user (shown below). The post gained 170 smiles in one month. On December 20th, 2021, iFunny[8] user WinnieThePoohBear posted an alternative version of the macro, with the post gaining over 170 smiles in one month.
Starting in early January 2022, the first image saw viral spread online as a reaction. For example, on January 7th, 2022, Tumblr[9] user hades-pal reposted the image, with the post gaining nearly 7,000 likes and reblogs in one month. On January 21st, 2022, gimmick Twitter[10] account @TheFunny_mp4 reposted the image, with the post gaining over 9,900 retweets and 137,800 likes in three days.
