See The Winner Of December 2023's Meme Of The Month!
And the meme of December 2023 goes to…
Ho ho ho! It must be a Christmas miracle, but Jollyposting, which we had in the bottom half of our list last month, shaped up nicely into a jollier, merrier and more developed version of itself. The meme, which involves making Christmas-themed edits of popular GIFs and videos (often by replacing profanities with "Merry Christmas!") has proved to be both hilarious and adaptable, and what else could you need for a perfect holiday format? Top spot with 19 percent of total votes.
Kurt Angle's 1000 Yard Stare
Just below the first place with 15 percent of total votes we have none other than Kurt Angle casting that 1,000 yard stare of his right straights through you. What can be described as "shellshocked," the expression the professional wrestler made in his TikTok":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/kurt-angle-1000-yard-stare conveys internal suffering and screams pain louder than actual screaming ever could, which turned the clip into a perfect caption material. Blink twice if everything's okay, Kurt.

We're Gonna Have to Kill This Guy, Steven
While "We're gonna have to kill this guy, Steven" didn't originate in December – artist Haus of Decline posted the original comic back in April this year – the format truly blossomed this month after Twitter user @g4teway31 brought it back with a timely redraw. The breakingbad-esque dynamic proved to be a great way for exploring unexpected team-ups and crossovers, and now gets a bronze medal with 14 percent of total votes.
Chipi Chipi Chapa Chapa / "Dubidubidu"
Another meme that first appeared a few months back but took its sweet time to unlock its potential, Chipi Chipi Chapa Chapa started as an animation of Boykisser that was paired with a 2010 song by Chilean child singer Christell. After a couple of months of stewing on TikTok, the meme reached an earworm status after it was combined with an animation of cat bobbing its head. We can't get "Chipi Chipi Chapa Chapa" out of heads, and neither it will be leaving voluntarily any time soon – fourth place with ten percent of total votes.

Spotify Wrapped Sound Towns
Were you assigned to Berkley this Spotify Wrapped season? A fellow Portlander, mayhaps? Have you been hanging out in Davis with all the other K-pop stans? This year's Spotify Wrapped not only cemented its place as an international holiday for melomaniacs worldwide, but also added a music-taste-based dispatch policy, segregating hyperpop fans from phonk appreciators and assigning them to cities and towns where the aggregated music taste seemed to match. Poking fun at each other's music preferences is never a miss – fifth place with ten percent of total votes.
Andrew and Ashley Graves Redraws
A family portrait format with a dastardly twist, Andrew and Ashley Graves Redraws is based, of course, on the possibly incestuous dynamic from the viral indie game The Coffin of Andy and Leyley that you've likely heard about by now. However, nothing about the format really gives away that vibe, but it's still there because, you know, of the implication. Sixth place with six percent of total votes.
And now the formats that we just didn't have the heart to tell that you didn't like them as much, the middle children of December. Here we remember the platinum hit Last Rizzmas I Gave You My Gyatt and an assortment of Rizzmas Carols (6%), the spectacular Master Debater aka "Both" Guy (5%), HBomberguy's "Plagiarism and You(Tube" video and its consequences (5%), all the recently discovered instances of reincarnation we celebrated (4%), media if it was written like Helluva Boss, the new, scantily-clad Twitch meta (2%), Tiger Wood's dabbing his son up big dog style (1%), and that white woman scream GIF, courtesy of Hideo Kojima (1%).
Thank you for voting and see you in 2024!
