About
Soul Eater is a Japanese supernatural manga series first written and illustrated by Atsushi Ōkubo and later animated by studio BONES. After the series first creation, most notably the anime adaptation, the series has garnered a large fan following online.
Premise
The Soul Eater is set at Death Weapon Meister Academy, abbreviated to the DWMA, located in the town of Death City in Nevada, United States. The school is run by the Shinigami known as Death, as a way of training humans with the ability to transform into weapons, as well as those who wield these weapons, called meisters. The Original Soul Eater series follows meister Maka Albarn and her scythe partner Soul Eater, as well as assassin Black Star and his partner Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, and Death's son Death the Kid and his pistol partners Liz and Patty Thompson, with their goal being to absorb the souls of 99 evil humans and one witch, which will dramatically increase their power, and allow them to turn into "death scythes", weapons capable of being used by Death. However, while trying to achieve this goal, they are thrust into a number of different situations, facing certain witches who wish to harness the power of the Kishin, an evil God, Asuna, and destroy the DWMA using it. On the other hand, the Soul Eater Not series tells the story of a freshman halberd named Tsugumi Harudori, as well as her meister friends Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn, set in a more peaceful time before the events of the original Soul Eater series, showing their daily lives at the school.

A spin-off manga, Soul Eater Not, was also published on January 12, 2011, with 5 total volumes published. This spin-off series also received an anime adaptation, animated once again by studio BONES, and began airing on April 8, 2014, lasting a total of 13 episodes.
