About

Thanos is a Marvel Comics supervillain known for battling against various superhero teams, including the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Fantastic Four and X-Men. The character gained much notoriety online for his role in the 2018 film Avengers: Infinity War.

Origin

In February 1973, Thanos first appeared in an issue of the comic The Invincible Iron Man (shown below). The supervillain was featured in various other comics and storylines in various Marvel comics over the next several decades, with his origin being revealed in a miniseries titled Thanos Rising in April 2013.

Backstory

In the Marvel comics^[1], Thanos is revealed to have come from Saturn's moon Titan and has the Deviants gene. After becoming interested in nihilism and death as a teenager, Thanos gained strength and powers using scientific knowledge as an adult. In an attempt to impress his love interest Mistress Death, Thanos killed millions of his own race on Titan in a nuclear attack. In later stories, Thanos attempts to gain more power by securing powerful objects like the Cosmic Cube and the Infinity Gems.

Among his various powers, Thanos possesses superhuman strength and is frequently depicted as nearly immortal and invulnerable.

Thanos Car refers to an image of a modified, purple pickup truck which some say resembles the face of Thanos (shown below).

Thanoscopter

Thanoscopter is a yellow helicopter with the word THANOS displayed on its tail, piloted by Thanos in two issues of Marvels comics. The panels of the comics gained notoriety following the release of Marvel's Avengers franchise, with Thanoscopter later appearing in fan art, memes and online petitions.

"Thanos Did Nothing Wrong" is a phrase used in memes and online discussion about the actions of Thanos in the film Avengers: Infinity War, absolving him of any ethical violations. The phrase is based on the meme catchphrase "Hitler Did Nothing Wrong".

Everything refers to an exploitable object labeling series of image macros taken from a scene in Avengers: Infinity War in which young Gamorra asks "What did it cost?" and Thanos replies "Everything." The scene has been edited such that either the dialogue has been changed to reflect a different kind of deal, and or the characters have been labeled to change what the characters are talking about.

In March 2019, the theory spawned a series of related memes on Reddit.

I'm Sorry Little One is a quote uttered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War, which has been used as a reaction image taken out of context and paired with various humorous captions.

What Does This Monster Have To Mourn? is a three-panel exploitable image series based on a scene from the film Avengers: Infinity War.
