About
Would You Still Love Me If I Was A Worm? is a cliché question girlfriends ask their boyfriends to gauge how much they really love them outside of their physicality. The question became memeworthy due to its nonsensical nature, as well as its remixability as a phrasal template. It originates from a viral tweet in 2019 and spread to Facebook and TikTok. On Halloween day in 2022, Heidi Klum's worm costume from her annual Hallowe'en Party caused a resurgence in the meme as people online referenced it alongside the pop culture discussion.
Origin
On June 7th, 2019, Twitter[1] user shutyourhell posted a tweet that outlined an imagined conversation between her and her husband at 3 A.M. She starts off crying, prompting the husband to pry at what's wrong, ultimately being, "idk i just feel like if we were born as worms u wouldn’t like me .. would u even marry me ? whatever just forget it …" Over the course of three years, the tweet received roughly 34,200 likes (shown, below, left). On June 26th, 2019, Twitter[2] user shutyourhell posted another tweet reading, "would u guys still like me if i was a worm .. ? idk i feel like u wouldn’t .. whatever … just forget it .." earning roughly 18,600 likes in three years (shown below, right).
Spread
On July 3rd, 2019, Twitter[3] user grovndzero created a two-panel comic using the premise of shutyourhell's tweet, captioning it, "oh worm," and earning roughly 12,000 likes over the course of three years (shown below).
The question continued to be referenced in tweets going into 2020. They started to more specifically relate the question to an annoying question that a girlfriend would ask her boyfriend. On April 12th, 2020, Twitter[4] user princesssmeera was the first to do so, tweeting, "I want a boyfriend so I can ask him dumb shit like 'Would you still love me if I was a worm?'" and earning roughly 1,500 likes in two years (shown below, top). On April 22nd, 2020, Twitter[5] user DeeGBP posted a quote retweet with a video of a guy screaming "No!" captioning it with the worm question and earning roughly 53,600 likes in two years (shown below, bottom).
