About
Metroman Leaving refers to a reaction GIF and video meme from the animated movie Megamind. The meme shows a slow zoom in toward the character Metroman before he turns around a leaves. The meme is also sometimes called "Metroman Super Speed," with the subsequent scene showing the character walking around town very fast while everyone else remains frozen. In late 2023, the "Metroman Leaving" video became a template to joke about how corny people expect the Five Nights At Freddy's movie to be, with TikToks using the scene with the phrasal template, "Me leaving the theater after ___."
Origin
The animated movie Megamind was released on December 24th, 2010. The film contained a scene where the superhero Metroman paused in the midst of Megamind's monologue, and used his superspeed to ponder the seeming lack of choices in his life (seen below).[1]
The earliest known use of the scene as a meme is a May 8th, 2022 post by X[2] user @DarkestKnight29, gathering over 18,000 likes in two years (seen below).

On July 16th, 2023, TikToker[3] @somedud31 made a meme that using the Metroman Leaving video, writing, "Serial killers when they get 528 years in jail instead of a 100," and gathering over plays and 200,000 likes in seven months (seen below, left). On October 21st, 2023, TikToker[4] @atticusda posted a version of the meme to comment on how corny they think the Five Nights At Freddy's film is going to be. The post gathered over 4 million plays and 1 million likes in four months (seen below, right).

On January 13th, 2024, X[5] user @PokoChokos used a version of the gif that shows Metroman starting to leave but quickly returning, alongside a caption that read, "The animator verbalase hired to animate a hazbin hotel character stalking and fucking him when they hear they’ll get paid 50k." The post gathered over 2,000 likes in two months (seen below).
